Yahoo! Bus Stop Derby
Social platforms were turning "connection" into something that only happened on screens. Yahoo took it back to the street: San Francisco bus stops became live arenas where neighborhoods competed, ending in an OK Go block party. It won a Cannes Cyber Lion Gold.

01 · The challenge
Connection, back on the street
Yahoo needed to reclaim relevance as a connector of people, not just a media portal: at the exact moment social platforms were making 'connection' a purely on-screen idea.
02 · The idea
Twenty neighborhoods, one leaderboard
Turn ordinary bus stops into real-time touch-screen arenas where neighborhoods competed live against each other, building citywide rivalry that paid off in an OK Go block party.
Twenty San Francisco neighborhoods each got a team. Commuters picked their neighborhood at the shelter, played, and pushed its score up a live leaderboard. The prize was an OK Go concert in the neighborhood that won.

03 · The games
Touch to play
The shelter screen opened on the leaderboard and four games: Focus-Pocus, Chatter Scatter, Sport-a-pult, and Incoming!, where you sort the most incoming mail in a snap.

04 · The derby
North Beach won
The derby ran in early 2011. North Beach finished on top, and the prize arrived there as a block party with OK Go.
